For generations of Pakame High School students, Mai Ngwenya was more than just a matron—she was a guiding figure, a source of comfort, and a pillar of integrity. From the moment she joined the school in 1981, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the well-being of students, ensuring they were cared for in times of illness, hardship, and personal challenges. After 34 years of unwavering service, she retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and commitment. Recently, our alumni tracked her down for an exclusive interview, eager to hear her reflections on a lifetime of service, the challenges she faced, and the memories she holds dear. This is her story.

In your time as School Matron, did you notice any changes in the student body or in the schools culture that stand out to you?
